Student Testimonials
What follows are various statements from the students themselves or staff members about the value of Championship Training/S.E.T. Class. These testimonials are from students currently enrolled in the program or have completed the class in previous years.
From Students currently enrolled in class:
I started lifting weights and taking the S.E.T. Class this winter. since then I have done so much to my life that when I look back I cannot believe it. Last fall I was a small, weak 16 year old that could not bench press 135 pounds. I was making poor choices in what I did socially and academically. I was partying on the weekends and not paying any attention in school. I was getting D's and F's on my report card. Then Coach Freeborn convinced me to join S.E.T. Class and start lifting weights. In the weightroom I started to make huge gains. My new strength gave me confidence to break away from the looser friends that I had, and I started to clean up my life. In class we learned about how to wake up every morning with a good attitude. I had a purpose and a goal. My whole life has completely changed. Without the program I do not think I would have even been around much less be a productive, goal-oriented person. Now every day I am working toward becoming a college student and athlete. The only regret I have about this class is that it wasn't around sooner. I had so much trouble that this class could have helped my Freshman and Sophomore years. But incoming Freshmen can be helped by the program, and they can get a jump on life before foolish choices ruin what they could be, if they start working early in their high school career. I was one of the first students to try the new S.E.T. Class. This class has changed me and my life in ways that I had never even considered before. Most people take for granted that everyone knows how to be positive, but they don't. In the short time I have been in this class, my entire attitude has been improved upon. I believe that the part time job I have is largely do to having the right mental attitude which I learned in SE.T. Class. I am now doing better in school and my relations with my family, friends, teachers, and people who I ordinarily would not bother to greet. The second part I would like to address is the strength and conditioning program that we have before and after school. I began the lifting program as a weak 160 pounder. Now I have worked my way up and I am now deadlifting 440 pounds. I speak of this not to brag, but to demonstrate what I have worked hard for and accomplished. JB-Football& Wrestling
Combining weight training and the S.E.T. Class has resulted in vast improvements for me as an athlete and as a student. The class focuses mainly on the mental part of sports. For example, using your physiology to put you in a mind set to do well in whatever you desire. You could be preparing for a game or preparing for a test and be successful at both by changing your attitude to being positive. Outlooks should always be positive because negative attitudes just get in the way and hinder all progress. Weight lifting has been great! I have personally seen tremendous improvement in my capability on the football field, wrestling mat, and track. During the course of the year I have lifted consistently 5 days a week, and have increased my strength, quickness, and explosiveness. It feels good to get up and work out. You feel good about yourself and what you're doing. PG-Football,Wrestling&Track
I have lifted weights every morning at 6:00 AM before school since the beginning of September. When I started lifting, I could only bench about 135 pounds, squat 185, deadlift 275 and clear 135. I was pretty weak. I have noticed dramatic changes in my attitude and strength. I can now bench over 200, squat 275, deadlift 320, and clean 205. Lifting weights has made me feel much better about myself. I fell stronger and am confident that I can do anything that I try my best to do. I feel that if I continue to lift and be involved in a summer strength program, nothing but good things can and will happen. People who lift together at my school are more positive towards each other. People who lift and are active in fitness programs have a positive twist on life. They see things in a good and positive way. I also believe that this program will help kids get involved in something positive instead of just "hanging out." JS-Football& Basketball
I have noticed since I have enrolled in this class that I have had more of a positive attitude toward what would have been a negative situation in the past. And I think the inspirational material we receive in the class has been the major contributor in this attitude change. The formulas that I have received in this class have educated me in more effectively and properly setting and achieving goals. These formulas have allowed me to accomplish more. One of which is the planning of my Eagle project. Since I have started using the goal setting formulas, I have made vast progress on my Eagle rank in scouting. MS-Football&Track
S.E.T. Class has taught me many important lessons that I will need to know to successfully live my life. Before I took this class my mom would always tell me to think positive. For the most part I knew what that meant, however, I never knew exactly how to go about it. When I started this class things were not going well for me at all. I had just failed English, I was constantly fighting with my parents and I had taken a huge step down the wrong road. I hated school with a passion and started skipping all of the time. Within the first few weeks of this class, I started realizing that things had to change. Coach Freeborn along with the motivational material made me realize that how things are in the present is a reflection of how things will be in the future. I have developed what I would call a pretty positive attitude, and I have decided on some goals for my future. This class has meant a lot to me. It made me realize how stupid and irresponsible I was being, before it was too late. AP-Girls Soccer
From Faculty Members:
I just had a phone call from a father regarding his son's attitude and production in school. He was astounded at the complete turnaround in his son's attitude. His grades have improved dramatically, he has daily and weekly goals, he doesn't fly off the handle anymore, and he's enthusiastic about life. That's the first call I've had like that. Championship Training is a class all of our kids need to take. JR-Guidance
My Juniors are writing essays on their year (looking back). One person credits you with helping her not to let her "teammates' attitudes bring her down." She says, "I owe a big thanks to Mr. Freeborn's class for showing me how to change my attitude and it would change the attitudes of those around me." MJ-English Department
From Former Students
I wanted to tell you that my Championship Training notebook has helped me in college. I've shared a lot of its contents with friends down here, and also used it in my coaching class. In fact, the quotes and Dare to Care cards are above my desk to keep me motivated. I guess I didn't realize how useful all of that stuff was during my Senior year. But now I do. In fact, I'd like to get some new stuff from you sometime. AL-College Student and now Basketball Coach
I'm writing to express my extreme gratitude. Your Championship Training Class will remain in my heart and mind for the rest of my life. I exercise everyday and I'm practically a fanatic about what I eat. And when I feel there is no hope, I look at the blue book you gave to me at graduation and the papers you handed out during class and realize, My God!, I can do it! Mr. Freeborn, I only wish you could understand how much your class meant to me. I have to thank you very much and even that doesn't seem to be enough. AR-Female Student
Championship Training Class will be a part of my life and others I meet, forever. I treasure dearly all of my class notes and look to them when in doubt or misbelief. I know now, that I am more than capable of fulfilling my future role as both a musician and educator. My interests also include teaching a class like Championship training. So many youth need to know that there is a way to do what it is they desire doing. People need to know and understand that happiness is from within and change is a choice. I read my achievement cards and goal sheet daily if not more than once a day. I am more than willing to go the extra mile to achieve my wishes and use my God-given abilities. I'm excited for life. Each new day is yet another self-made success story and step up the mountain of success. MH-College Student (spent her high school freshman year "on the streets")
